Gain the essential financial skills needed to effectively develop and manage building and facilities budgets in Budgeting and Accounting. This course provides hands-on applications and problem-solving exercises that apply directly to real property and facility management.

You’ll follow the accounting process from start to finish—learning how to create budgets, interpret financial statements, and analyze annual reports and cash flow statements. Practical exercises will reinforce key concepts such as compiling lease abstracts, preparing rent rolls, computing productivity ratios, and understanding budget variances.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify opportunities to increase a property’s net operating income
  • Distinguish between recoverable and nonrecoverable operating expenses
  • Establish cost controls to improve financial efficiency
  • Prioritize capital expenditures for long-term asset value
  • Clearly explain budget variances to stakeholders
  • Apply best practices in tenant financial communications
  • Analyze and interpret financial statements of prospective tenants
