What is Extended Reality (XR)?
XR is an umbrella term for technologies that blend virtual elements with the physical world or create standalone immersive worlds, including existing technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), and future innovations.
AR overlays virtual elements onto the real world. Popular examples include Snapchat filters and Pokémon GO, which highlight AR's relevance in various fields. Users typically use phones to interact with these virtual elements, but AR glasses are being developed for a more seamless experience. Companies like Apple, Meta, Xreal, and Lenovo have released initial AR glasses, with Google, Samsung, and Qualcomm also working on this technology.
